Dee

“Dee”
Flat Coated Retriever
June 1999-June 2011
If you really lucky, once in a lifetime that special dog touches both your heart and your soul. Dee was that dog for me. Besides being my show dog, obedience dog, hunting partner, and therapy dog; the most important title she earned was that of “Best Friend”. Her life enriched so many. She served as a therapy dog to autistic children, a reading dog to elementary students, and even played the Easter Bunny a time or two. She taught me so much more than I ever attempted to teach her.
Hours after winning fourth place in the (eleven years and over) Veteran Sweepstake at the Flat Coated Retriever National Specialty in Maryland; she had a seizure from which she never fully recovered. (Brain Tumor)
I made the heart wrenching decision to allow her to cross the bridge to chase kongs and bumpers.
While I am blessed with her children and grandchildren; Dee was a “heart dog” and “heart dogs” are simply… different.
Goodbye Dear Friend….enjoy your “dumb” kongs and bumpers until I throw them for you again.
